Consecration, Investiture, Seminars, Student Life Photographs 1966-1977

This series comprises 177 black & white and color photographs of events that represent deaconess community activities related to education and training or anniversary observances of education and training. These photographs date from 1966-1977 and subject matter includes consecration and investitures for deaconess students, consecration anniversaries observed for deaconesses, student life, and seminars for prospective deaconess students. These photographs are the group portraits taken at events. There are very few candid shots of the particular events represented by the group shots. One might see this as a weakness for this collection in that the services themselves are not documented on film. It is also not known if the shots of the consecrated deaconess receiving her blessing and cross were taken during the service or were reenacted after the service. This series will not be good to use for trying to get a sense of the consecration or investiture services themselves. These photographs are better suited for use in identifying individual deaconesses. The majority of this collection is dated and either identified or partially identified. More than half of the ten folders in this series contain photographs of consecration anniversaries. Many of the photographs were taken by Joseph H. MacGregor, a commercial photographer in Springfield, Pennsylvania. Color photographs represent only a small portion of the collection. Several of the photographs are duplicate images. Files are arranged alphabetically by subject.
